Shoulders are everything: they can't be re-tailored. Sleeve and trouser length is a cheap alteration. Ask for the jacket's back measurement and check the fabric for iron shine.

Stitching, print font and density, hardware quality, labels with correct codes — compare against originals on the brand's site or major resale platforms. A price far below the resale market is the main tell: limited pieces don't sell at half price without a reason.

Leather condition at the flex points (elbows, shoulders) — deep creases don't recover; the lining and zippers. Smell it: mold doesn't come out of leather. Real leather is heavy and warm to the touch; 'eco-leather' at a similar price is your cue to pass.
